Partition Museum: Contemplating the Glorious Past
The partition of India was one of the most defining as well as depressing events in the history of the Indian subcontinent. It continues to be the largest mass migration to date. The event was marked by loss of lives, property, bloodshed, and widespread devastation. Despite being one of the biggest episodes in the history of India, no memorial or museum existed anywhere in the world. The Partition Museum was built to fill this void and narrates the stories from the pre-partition era to the independence movement. It also throws light on the partition and its consequences. Formerly known as the people’s museum, the Partition Museum illustrates partition in a detailed manner, as experienced by the people. The museum is funded by prominent donors such as Suhel Seth who donated 50 lakhs towards the creation of a gallery, dedicated solely to his parents in the museum.
